Mid-Shore Goes Purple
The purpose of The Mid-Shore is Going Purple Together is to demonstrate that the mid-shore stands united against substance misuse, abuse, and overdose. Together, we can educate our community about substance use prevention and available resources. Together, we will save lives, because we know that help is available and recovery is possible!
What is "Goes Purple?"
Project Purple started as an initiative of The Herren Project, a 501(c)3 non-profit foundation established by former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, started to break the stigma of addiction, bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse and shed light on effective treatment practices. THP Project Purple has since been retired, along with the color purple, and has rebranded.
Talbot Goes Purple (TGP) started in late 2016 with Talbot County Sheriff Joe Gamble of the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office and Tidewater Rotary, and is in partnership with Talbot County Public Schools, Saints Peter and Paul Schools and Mid-Shore Community Foundation. The movement has since spread to more than half of the counties within Maryland.
Talbot Goes Purple is a substance use prevention initiative that empowers our youth and our community to ‘Go Purple’ in September, as a sign of taking a stand against substance abuse. TGP was recognized in 2018 as a promising practice by the Maryland Opioid Operational Command Center.
